Belmont - Eastern Suburbs

Belmont is a suburb located in the city of Brisbane, in Queensland Australia, 12 km from the Brisbane Central Business District (CBD). Belmont (and Mackenzie) is bounded by Burstall Avenue, Belmont Road, Marwood Street, Ermelo Road and Stanbrough Road in the north, London Road, Tilley Road, Old Cleveland Road, the Belmont Shooting Complex and Prout Road in the east, Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road in the south, and the Gateway Motorway in the west.

Belmont is named after an early property in the area. Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, when timber getters arrived. During the 1860s and 1870s sugar cane was grown, and general farming and dairy farming were established. The area remained largely agricultural until the 1960s. Rapid growth has taken place since the early 1990s, with the population almost doubling between 1991 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly from the Gainsborough Park Estate.

Major features of the area include Belmont Shooting Complex and one school.
